Welcome to the IV edition of the Vratsa International Conducting Course and Competition, an international project by MROCI – Miguel Romea Conducting Institute, which continues to attract outstanding conductors from all over the world.
Following the great success of the previous editions, 2026 consolidates Vratsa as a key meeting point for emerging conductors, offering an intense and inspiring experience that combines a high-level conducting course with an international competition focused on artistic excellence, professionalism, and meaningful podium time.
This edition offers two participation categories: Active Participants and Observers. Active participants will enjoy extensive hands-on work with a full professional orchestra, personalized guidance from Maestro Romea, and the opportunity to perform in public concerts as part of the competition. Observers are welcome to attend all rehearsals, classes, and concerts, gaining a deep insider perspective on the entire artistic process.
One of the defining features of the Vratsa course is the exceptional amount of time on the podium, allowing conductors to truly develop, experiment, and grow in front of the orchestra within a focused, supportive, and highly motivating atmosphere.
Days 1–2 (July 6–7):
Intensive rehearsal sessions and masterclasses with Miguel Romea, working in depth with the Vratsa Symphony Orchestra. These first two days are entirely dedicated to artistic development, exploration, and refinement, offering active participants generous and meaningful podium time from the very beginning. Masterclasses and discussions are open to both active participants and observers.
Day 3 (July 8):
Competition Day. Active participants will take part in the official competition rounds, conducting the orchestra under jury evaluation in a focused, professional, and inspiring environment.
Days 4–5 (July 9–10):
Concert Days. All selected conductors will perform in public concerts with the Vratsa Symphony Orchestra.
8 conductors will perform on Day 4
8 conductors will perform on Day 5
These concerts represent the artistic culmination of the course and include a professional recording of each performance.
✨ To preserve the highest artistic standards and ensure meaningful individual work, a maximum of 16 active participants will be admitted. This limited number guarantees exceptional podium time and a truly personalized experience with the orchestra. The Selection Committee reserves the right not to fill all available places if the required artistic level is not met.
🎯 Early applications will be given priority in the selection process. Due to the limited number of places, we strongly encourage interested conductors to apply as soon as possible to avoid missing this unique opportunity.
Active participants will work on a demanding and inspiring symphonic program:
Fanny Mendelssohn Overture in C, Op. 24
Max Bruch: Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26
Johannes Brahms: Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73
The IV Vratsa International Conducting Course and Competition is more than a course — it is a dynamic, unforgettable artistic journey, offering conductors the chance to work intensively with a professional orchestra, connect with fellow musicians from around the world, and take a decisive step forward on the podium.
Join us in Vratsa in 2026 and be part of an experience defined by music, energy, and excellence.
