Welcome to the IV edition of the Vratsa International Conducting Course and Competition, an international project by MROCI – Miguel Romea Conducting Institute, which continues to attract outstanding conductors from all over the world.
Following the great success of the previous editions, 2026 consolidates Vratsa as a key meeting point for emerging conductors, offering an intense and inspiring experience that combines a high-level conducting course with an international competition focused on artistic excellence, professionalism, and meaningful podium time.
This edition offers two participation categories: Active Participants and Observers. Active participants will enjoy extensive hands-on work with a full professional orchestra, personalized guidance from Maestro Romea, and the opportunity to perform in public concerts as part of the competition. Observers are welcome to attend all rehearsals, classes, and concerts, gaining a deep insider perspective on the entire artistic process.
One of the defining features of the Vratsa course is the exceptional amount of time on the podium, allowing conductors to truly develop, experiment, and grow in front of the orchestra within a focused, supportive, and highly motivating atmosphere.
Days 1–3 (June 6–8):
Intensive rehearsal sessions with the Vratsa Symphony Orchestra for active participants. Each conductor is guaranteed substantial podium time every day. Conducting classes and musical discussions with Maestro Romea are open to all participants and observers.
Days 4–5 (June 9–10):
Concert days and competition rounds, including final rehearsals, public performances, and the final concert and awards ceremony. These concerts represent the culmination of the work developed throughout the course and offer participants a truly professional performance experience.
Active participants will work on a demanding and inspiring symphonic program:
Fanny Mendelssohn Overture in C, Op. 24
Max Bruch: Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26
Johannes Brahms: Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73
The IV Vratsa International Conducting Course and Competition is more than a course — it is a dynamic, unforgettable artistic journey, offering conductors the chance to work intensively with a professional orchestra, connect with fellow musicians from around the world, and take a decisive step forward on the podium.
Join us in Vratsa in 2026 and be part of an experience defined by music, energy, and excellence.
